Ultimate Railfan Package
The perfect gift for the train-lover in your life! Photograph the famed “Pocahontas” railroad at the Inn that RR historian/author and Director of the Center for Railroad Tourism at Davis & Elkins College, James D. Porterfield called “the best legal train-watching location in the USA” in Railfan & Railroad Magazine! The package included:
- Gift Certificate for 2 nights at the Elkhorn Inn (double occ.)

Fishing Package
Bring (or send) your fly-fishing fanatic to the Elkhorn Inn for a great weekend of fishing Elkhorn Creek, which has been called “the best wild trout stream in the USA”! The Fishing Package included:
- Gift Certificate for 2 nights at the Elkhorn Inn (double occupancy).
- Continental Breakfast each morning.
- Dinner at the Inn for 2 people on one night. (Dinner the second night and a hot breakfast may be added, as well)
- Two Elkhorn Inn embroidered-logo polo shirts.
Elkhorn Creek is full of brown and rainbow trout, averaging 24″-32″, but it is NOT stocked, so we promote “catch-and release” fishing. We also suggest wearing chest-waders if you will be fishing in the creek. You can also fish from the bank with a regular rod and the bait or lures of your choice. All you need to fish Elkhorn Creek is a regular WV fishing permit, which may be purchased online on the WV DNR website, or at any Wal-Mart in West Virignia.
Romance Getaway Gift Package
The perfect gift for the two of you: a fun, romantic getaway in the mountains of southern WV! Go leaf-peeping, have a romantic picnic on “Miracle Mountain”, relax on the Inn’s patio or balcony, go fishing right at the Inn on Elkhorn Creek, hike, go ATV-ing, take bubble baths in our antique, claw-foot tubs…

Biker B-and-B Inn-to-Inn Special
Do the trip that 7-time AMA Grand National Motorcycle Champion Chris Carr and his wife did on Speed Channel’s “2-Wheel Tuesday” program! Ride our incredibly scenic, winding mountain roads, and stay at two great WV inns: the Elkhorn Inn in Landgraff, and Gillum House Bed-and-Breakfast in Shinnston! Gillum House’s owners are both former riders- he rode Triumphs & BSA Gold Stars and she rode a Honda Shadow 1100- so they know what kind of roads you want to ride!
2-night Inn-to-Inn Package for two people included: one night with breakfast at each inn, and lunches-to-go!
4-night Deluxe Inn-to-Inn Package for two people included: two nights with breakfast at each inn, our EXCLUSIVE ride guide for a great 285 mile ride, and lunches-to-go!
Start at either inn and take great scenic mountain roads for approx. 285 miles. Travel good highway that’s not pitted with holes and hazards, is full of history, great curves, and enjoy the fantastic scenery!Each inn has off-street parking for our motorcycle guests. The Elkhorn Inn is in the heart of the Coalfields of West Virginia, and Gillum House is in Shinnston, in north central Mountaineer Country.
Mountain Golf Gift Package
Bring your clubs & treat yourself to a fun round of mountain golf at BlackWolf Links! A 9-hole golf course that was formerly the Gary Country Club, BlackWolf is a challenging little course with tricky hills, trout streams to tee over, and bridges to cross! There’s a new restaurant on the course for a bite to eat and a drink after the game, too! (You can ride your ATV to the golf course, too!)
Our Golf Package included:

- Continental Breakfast each morning
- Dinner at the Inn for two one night. (Dinner the second night and a full, hot breakfast may be added).
- A round of golf (9 holes) for two people and a cart at BlackWolf Links!
Foodie Foraging Fun
The Elkhorn Inn offered 3 “Foodie Foraging Excursions”, with the opportunity to then cook with Chef Dan and enjoy Dinner at the Inn!
Ramp Hunting in the spring (April): We guided guests to the area we call “ramp mountain” where ramps grow wild! They could then climb the mountain side and pick ramps, and if they wished, then join Chef Dan back at the Inn making ramp pesto or pickled ramps. In order to go on a “ramp hunt” guests had to have their own ATV and a helmet, a pick, and big sack! Guests of the Inn could also opt to enjoy a classic West Virginia Ramp Breakfast (eggs, bacon or sausage, sauteed ramps, and potatoes, or Chef Dan’s “Green Eggs & Ham” made with ramp pesto!
Wild Blackberry Picking in the summer (July and August):
Guests could pick wild blackberries (with us on their ATVs), or from their car, or while in hiking in the area on their own, and then, if they wished, join Chef Dan in making blackberry cordial, blackberry sauce, or blackberry-pepper salsa (from our own garden peppers, if possible), or making a Smoothie, or eating their berries with ice cream!
Pesto Party in the late summer/early fall:
Guests could pick basil and other herbs from our garden, and, if they wished, make pesto with Chef Dan, and then enjoy a Pasta Pesto Dinner at the Inn!
Accompanied “Foodie Foraging Excursions” (berry or ramp picking), and cooking workshops were available, as well.
ATV Special
The Elkhorn Inn & ATV Illustrated Magazine hosted a special ATV Weekend, riding the great trails in McDowell County, with photos taken for the magazine!
Jolly Holidays!
Easter, Passover, the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years… Our guests had holiday getaways at the Elkhorn Inn, with a special festive Chef Dan Dinner! No cooking or clean-up- just relaxation and great food!
Guests enjoyed a classic Easter Dinner, a traditional Passover Seder, Thanksgiving Dinner with Chef Dan’s Herb-Stuffed Turkey or Roast Cornish Game Hens, an Israeli Hanukkah dinner featuring Chef Dan’s fabulous Latkes, Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings, or a romantic, candle lit New Years Eve Supper!
